Is a Notary Public a lawyer?

In the UK, most Notary Publics are qualified solicitors who have undertaken further training to become notaries. While all notaries must be legally trained, not all solicitors are notaries, and not all notaries actively practise as solicitors.

Notaries are authorised to certify, witness, and authenticate documents for international use, and their role is distinct from that of a solicitor or barrister. Their services are essential for cross-border legal matters, such as powers of attorney, property transactions , and documents for use in foreign courts.
