Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

We’ve compiled answers to the most common questions about apostilles, document legalisation, and delivery. These short explanations guide you through every stage of the process. If you still need help, email hello@apostille-direct.london or call 0203 297 8766.

Do I need to send the original document or a copy?

Some documents, such as birth certificates, marriage certificates, and criminal record checks, must have the apostille attached to the original. Others, like academic certificates, can be legalised on certified copies. When you order online, simply choose your preference. If unsure, check with the authority requesting the document or ask our team for guidance.

What is an Apostille Certificate?

An Apostille Certificate confirms that a signature, stamp, or seal on a UK document is genuine. It allows the document to be accepted in other countries under the Hague Convention. We usually obtain an apostille within 1–2 working days. Visit our E-Apostille & Digital Apostille page for details.

Is the Apostille Guaranteed?

Yes. We guarantee an apostille for any valid UK document that meets the required standards. If your document needs a correction, we’ll explain the steps clearly and help you fix it quickly.

What is Embassy Attestation?

Embassy attestation applies when documents are used in countries outside the Hague Convention. The relevant embassy verifies authenticity before acceptance abroad. We manage the entire process through our priority and same-day service.

Why use our Apostille Service?

Our team offers a fast, secure, and reliable way to legalise UK documents. We work directly with solicitors, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), and embassies to complete the process efficiently. In addition, we use tracked couriers for full peace of mind.

How do I order an Apostille?

Ordering is simple. Send your document to us, and we’ll return it with the apostille attached. Many business papers can be emailed directly. For a full explanation, visit our Hague Apostille guide.

How should I send my documents?

Use Royal Mail Special Delivery or a trusted courier service so you can track your documents. Standard post doesn’t include tracking or insurance, so we don’t recommend it. Courier return can also be arranged for added security.

How long does the process take?

We process most apostilles within 1–2 working days after receiving your documents. If something is missing, we’ll contact you right away. For urgent matters, choose our same-day or next-day service.

Which documents can receive an Apostille?

We can legalise most UK-issued documents, including:

  • Birth, marriage, and death certificates
  • Academic qualifications
  • Criminal record checks
  • Powers of attorney
  • Business documents such as Certificates of Incorporation

If you’re unsure, contact us for confirmation.

What happens if my document is rejected?

If a document can’t be legalised, we’ll explain the issue clearly and guide you through the correction process. Once it’s resolved, we’ll complete the legalisation right away.

Can I get an Apostille for documents issued outside the UK?

No. Apostilles apply only to documents originating in the United Kingdom. For foreign documents, contact the authorities in the issuing country.

Do I need a translation?

Some countries require a certified translation for non-English documents. We can arrange this service when needed. Simply mention it when you place your order.

What is the difference between an Apostille and Embassy Attestation?

An apostille authenticates UK documents for countries in the Hague Convention. Embassy attestation covers non-member countries and involves additional embassy verification. We handle both processes for you.

How much does it cost?

Fees depend on the document type, processing time, and any extras such as translation or attestation. To receive a quote, email hello@apostille-direct.london or call 0203 297 8766.

Can I track my documents?

Yes. Use a tracked delivery service when sending your papers. Once your apostille is ready, we’ll share the return tracking details for complete visibility.

Do you offer expedited services?

Yes. Our same-day and priority apostille services help you meet tight deadlines quickly and securely.

How can I contact your team?
