What is an apostille?
An apostille is an official government certificate issued under the 1961 Hague Convention. It authenticates a UK-issued statutory declaration so that it will be recognised and accepted in other Hague Convention member countries without the need for further embassy legalisation.
A statutory declaration with apostille is commonly required for:
Declarations submitted in foreign legal proceedings
Overseas immigration or visa applications requiring a formal declaration
International child custody or family court matters
Confirming marital status for overseas marriage registration
Statutory declarations for use in foreign financial or probate matters
Business declarations required by overseas authorities or institutions
Residency or citizenship applications in Hague Convention countries
Which statutory declarations can be apostilled?
We can arrange an apostille for the following types of UK-issued statutory declarations:
Statutory declarations made before a Solicitor, Commissioner for Oaths, Justice of the Peace, or Notary Public
Statutory declarations made under the Statutory Declarations Act 1835
Declarations prepared for use in foreign court or legal proceedings
Declarations of identity, residence, or marital status
Financial declarations for use in overseas inheritance or probate matters
Custom declarations drafted to meet the requirements of a specific country
If your statutory declaration was made in England, Wales, Scotland, or Northern Ireland, we can process it. Please contact us if you have any doubts about whether your document qualifies.
Our statutory declaration apostille services
Next working day apostille
Our most popular option. Submit your statutory declaration before 11:15 a.m. on a working day and it will be ready by 2:45 p.m. the following working day. This service includes certification by a qualified Solicitor, Notary Public, or Commissioner for Oaths registered with the FCDO.
Same day apostille – emergency
In urgent cases, we can apply for an emergency same day apostille, subject to FCDO pre-approval. Importantly, this must be arranged before 4:00 p.m. on the previous working day. Availability is limited and cannot be guaranteed in every case. Therefore, contact our team as early as possible to check eligibility.
E-apostille – electronic apostille
We offer secure electronic apostilles for statutory declarations using Advanced Electronic Signatures by our qualified solicitors or notaries. Furthermore, e-apostilles are accepted in most Hague Convention countries and can often be completed the same day, depending on FCDO processing times.

Frequently asked questions
Does my statutory declaration need to be made before a specific person?
Yes. For a statutory declaration to be eligible for an apostille, it must be made before a qualified legal professional — typically a Solicitor, Commissioner for Oaths, Justice of the Peace, or Notary Public. Consequently, if your declaration has not yet been made, our on-site solicitors and notaries can assist you before we submit it to the FCDO.
How long does the statutory declaration apostille take?
Our standard service is next working day. Same day options are available in limited circumstances and are subject to FCDO approval. As a result, we recommend planning ahead where possible to avoid unnecessary urgency.
Will the apostille be accepted in my country?
Apostilles are accepted in all countries that are signatories to the 1961 Hague Convention. This includes most European countries, the USA, Australia, UAE, and many more. Nevertheless, if you are unsure whether your destination country is a member, contact us and we will advise you.
Can I get an apostille for a statutory declaration made in Scotland or Northern Ireland?
Yes. We process statutory declarations made in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. The procedure is the same regardless of which part of the UK the document originated from.
Can you draft a statutory declaration for me as well as apostille it?
In many cases, yes. Our qualified solicitors and notaries can assist with drafting a statutory declaration tailored to the requirements of your destination country. Therefore, if you are unsure what your declaration should contain, contact us before your visit and we will guide you through the process.
What if my statutory declaration needs to meet specific foreign requirements?
Different countries have different requirements for statutory declarations. As a result, we strongly recommend confirming the exact format and content required by your destination country or institution before proceeding. Our team is experienced in preparing declarations for international use and can advise you accordingly.
